Aware that pregnant women and lactating mothers may have concerns about how they can be affected by COVID-19 and what they can do to protect themselves and their baby/unborn child from the virus, UNFPA The Gambia in partnership with the Minsitry of Health produced series of short vidoes on basic preventive measures targeting this population. To mark International Women's Day 2020, the United Nations system in The Gambia through the UN Gender Technical Working Group Chaired by UNFPA, led a school outreach programme at the Greater Banjul Upper Basic School to discuss gender equality with students. The activity also entailed the male students taking up gender roles normally assigned to women and girls in their communities, including cooking, in order to dismantle stereotypes and challenge gender inequality.

In this video, we introduce Jestina Greywoode, a teacher and peace educator, who participated in a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Early Warning, Peacebuilding and Mechanisms for Effective Dispute Resolution, through UNFPA The Gambia's support to WANEP The Gambia, under the UN Peacebuilding funded Women and Youth Project. Jestina believes that she is an instrument of peace and she is working to create a better community for herself, her daughter and all sectors of the society. According to her, the ToT helped instill a sense a responsibility in her as she is currently trying a carve out a career for herself in Policy Design and Implementation, through which she believes, she can better advocate for the rights of women and young people, especially with regards their participation in leadership and decision-making.
