In a bid to improve community development and gender-based violence (GBV) support, UNFPA The Gambia, in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), has launched a One-Stop-Shop Entrepreneurship and GBV Support Center in Farafenni. This initiative aims to empower local women and youth by providing essential entrepreneurship skills while also addressing the pressing issue of GBV in the region and beyond.

The center, established through joint efforts from UNFPA, ITC, and other key partners, is designed to foster economic empowerment through entrepreneurship training, offering the community opportunities for skills development and job creation. Importantly, the center will also serve as a safe space for survivors of GBV, offering crucial services such as counseling, psychosocial support, and referral mechanisms to access health and legal services. The centre is funded through the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security and the United Nations Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund.

The facility is part of a larger effort by UNFPA The Gambia and ITC to foster economic development while addressing key social challenges such as gender inequality and violence against women. By ensuring that women and youth in Farafenni have access to both economic opportunities and GBV support, this initiative hopes to augment the plight of the residents of Farafenni and even beyond.
