Young parliamentarians from across regions convened in Banjul for a two-day Strategic Dialogue aimed at advancing youth-inclusive policies and progressive national agendas. Organized by UNFPA in collaboration with the UN Youth Office and the Government of The Gambia, the event equipped participants to embed the Cotonou Youth Action Agenda into national and regional policies, prioritizing SRHR, gender equality, and the elimination of GBV and harmful practices.
The dialogue deepened understanding of the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda, highlighting the role of youth in peacebuilding and humanitarian action while bridging the gap between policy and practice. It also emphasized inclusive political processes, particularly empowering young women, to foster leadership and dismantle barriers to youth political participation.
Bringing together young parliamentarians, youth activists, stakeholders, and UN representatives, the event reinforced the importance of implementing the ICPD Programme of Action as a cornerstone for sustainable development and individual rights. It aligned with the UN’s Our Common Agenda and the Pact for the Future, affirming young leaders as vital agents in translating global commitments into local action.
