The Basse pad center, financed through the Peacebuilding Fund, has a positive impact on young girls and the environment. The reusable sanitary pad production center creates economic livelihoods for women and promotes the use of climate-friendly products.
Three years since its creation, the pad center has brought smiles to girls like Adama Buwaro of Basse Mansajang. Limited access to affordable and hygienic menstrual products meant Adama often used old rags, risking infections and enduring discomfort.
Learning about UNFPA's Pad Center in Basse changed everything for her:
“The pads are very useful to me, and I’m sure it’s the same with other girls. Here, people go to school without pads, and this affects their activities at school. Now, this has changed; many girls now have access to these pads, which they can use more than once. They are very comfortable, and you don’t have to worry about any discomfort.”
Adama's story is just one example of the countless lives transformed by UNFPA's Pad Center in Basse. Through innovative and sustainable solutions, the center is addressing menstrual hygiene needs, empowering girls, and protecting the planet for future generations.
As we strive for a more equitable and sustainable world, stories like Adama’s inspire us to continue our journey towards ending period poverty and promoting climate-smart initiatives.
