The proposed repeal of the law banning FGM in the country has presented us with a critical challenge, demanding a fortified resolve and unwavering dedication to safeguarding the rights and well-being of women and girls. The absence of this resolve and subsequent repeal of the law will reverse decades of work and steady progress registered in the fight to end Female Genital Mutilation. We remain resolute to end FGM in The Gambia and stand ready to support efforts that are dedicated to the same course.

“We stand in solidarity with survivors, activists, civil society organizations, faith-based organizations, and all those working tirelessly to end this human rights violation. Together, we must redouble our efforts to protect the rights and dignity of girls and women everywhere and ensure a future free from the harmful practice of FGM.”

Collaborative Partnerships: Driving Change Together

Amidst the challenges and the disturbing conversations around FGM, our partnerships have been instrumental in driving change and amplifying our advocacy efforts. Collaborating with  civil society organizations, religious leaders, and grassroots communities, we have cultivated a united front against FGM, emphasizing the importance of collective action in achieving sustainable progress.

Raising Awareness: A Call to Action

Our advocacy efforts have gained momentum as we continue to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of FGM on the physical, emotional, and psychological health of individuals. Through series of media engagements and stakeholder dialogues at all levels, we are seeking to foster a deeper understanding of the need to eradicate this harmful practice. We also seek to communicate our position on the proposal to repeal the law and issue a call to action for duty bearers.
